The "Open for Business" Initiative
The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is increasingly an engine for economic development. University organizations such as the Charlotte Research Institute have kick-started growth in new technologies for the region. Professors are doing research – and developing products – in areas as unique as laser-guided tools for hip replacements to engineering faster speeds for the motorsports industry. Our researchers partner with industry to solve important problems and improve systems.
Innovative university work is only half a success story, however. Active industry collaboration bolsters a productive “Open for Business” ethic that builds our regional economy.
UNC Charlotte is leading an initiative called Open For Business. The project is streamlining collaboration between higher education and industry. The Open For Business project has been gathering information in three key areas:
• What has worked well in relationships your business has had with universities?
• What has not worked well in relationships your business has had with universities?
• What is the “ideal state” you want in the way universities can serve your business?
